Detailed Description of Significance:

Vodou flags are both sacred and secular because traditionally, they were used for religious ceremonies. Yet, their beautiful design and color are meant to invite any and all to partake in the ceremonies. In addition, they are made as a gift to thelwa, the gods who inhabit the spirit world. They typically include imagery around Catholic chromolithographs, Biblical images, and veves – gates that allow spirits access to the human world.
